Mary McLeod Bethune!

Mary McLeod Bethune

Mary Jane McLeod Bethune faced many conflicts in her life. She  was the fifteenth child out of seventeen children. Ms. Bethune was born on July 10, 1875, in South Carolina, United States! Mary's parents were slaves until the American Civil War. Mary was the only member of her family born to be free from slavery. She worked in her parents' cotton fields as a child. Soon an African American Missionary opened a small school. That school was special, it didn't just teach the basics like reading and writing, it taught home economics as well. She was the only one of the family to be able to go to the school! Read on if you want to know the life, of a facinating African American Woman.
